Hunting in the real Africa is essentially about going into those few wild unspoiled places left in Africa - a must for every hunter that are still looking for a true “African” hunting experience. In essence, everything about this type of hunt is wild, and you are dealing with wild animals no person has yet managed to control and predict the forces of natural instinct. We hunt in the Luangwa Valley that forms part of the southernmost rift system in east Africa. More specifically, the northern and southern GMA’s bordering the South Luangwa National Park and the Luangwa River that form the Eastern boundary of the National Park. These GMA’s are designed to serve as buffer areas between the park and settled land. Unlike the parks however, GMA’s allow sustainable utilization of wildlife, mainly through commercial safari hunting.
Luangwa is known for its quality Buffalo that are shot there each season, whilst buffalo are great very good leopard and lion are also on offer. The Luangwa River that forms big pools in the dry season is teeming with Hippo and Crocodile. The whole area is rich in wildlife and you can expect daily encounters with, Baboon, Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Spotted Hyena, Puku, Chobe Bushbuck, Impala, Warthog, Sharps Grysbuck, Wildebeest, to name but a few. The vegetation is classic open savanna and mopani woodland. The riverbanks are shaded by stands of acacia, ebony and mahogany trees. Camps are built each year from grass, mud, tree poles and tree bark. It will consist of sleeping chalets with en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets; drum showers and beds with mosquito nets, a dining room area, and a kitchen all with concrete floors. These camps are not intended to be very luxurious but are remarkably well equipped and comfortable. Generator supplies electricity for lights and freezers etc. Our hunting season is during the dry months and extends from May to November; June – September are the most congenial months for hunting. The days are mild and the mornings can be cold. From September – November it is downright hot, but also some of the best hunting months if you can stand the heat. MOZAMBIQUEThis is another of those few true unspoiled places left in Africa. We hunt in the TETE province about 1.5 hours north of Tete itself. The town of Tete will also be the arrival and departure destination for all hunts. Charter flights are necessary to get to Tete and we will organize these, most commonly from South Africa. These charters will cost about the same, as you would have paid for normal airfare from South Africa to Tete. Our main target species here are Buffalo, Crocodile, Elephant, Hippo, Roan, Sable, Leopard and Lion. The quality of Elephant is as good as it gets in Africa. The cats are almost a given and Roan, Sable, Crocodile and Hippo are in abundance, one works a little harder for your Buffalo. A number of the more common plains game species are on offer as well. One must remember that here as well as all other African countries we hunt on government concession areas, which are vast and unfenced (700 000 acres) Quotas are not unlimited and you need to book the animals you are seeking. Remember that Elephant hunting are very demanding and you need to be in good shape – you know what they say about Elephant – you hunt them with your feet! Camps are about the same structures as in Zambia, the main camp is very comfortable with generator power. We may also utilize some of our “spike” camps within the concession area to get closer to the animals, also with the basic comforts at hand.
