Introduction

A hunting safari to Africa is certainly the most satisfying experience of a sportsman’s life. It involves the selection of a good safari outfit, months of preparation, travelling of long distances as well the hunt as you seek out your desired trophies. Afri Venture Safaris is the pride and joy of HO/PH Johan Odendaal who has 18 years experience in the Professional Hunting industry.

Our operation is highly ethical, especially with conservation through utilization in mind. No effort will be spared in endeavoring to obtain the finest possible trophies and to make your trip a memorable and satisfying experience.

HUNTING AREAS:

Our office/ base is in Pretoria and we conduct hunts through out South Africa, Zambia and Mozambique. We have 80,000 acres of hunting concessions in the following provinces: Limpopo, Northwest, Mpumalanga, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Free State and Northern Cape (Kalahari). No charter flights are needed for hunts in South Africa.

Zambia – 350000 acres and in Mozambique we share 900000 acres

In Zambia and Mozambique chartered flights are mostly taken due to long traveling time and time constraints.
Why such a wide variety? We believe that we can offer more species in their natural area of occurrence and certain species are only found in certain areas.

Depending on what species the client want to hunt, we determine which area is most suitable. We will not move to more than 2 areas during a normal hunt, as time and distances is always a factor. The duration of a safari depends on the client, but we would suggest a safari of between 7-14 days. Our hunting season normally start in April an end as late as November if you can bear the heat that late.

ACCOMMODATION:

All camps are of high standard with en suite bathrooms, the same you can expect at any touring destination and have electricity; we will supply plug converters for charging of cameras etc. For the ladies, there will be hair driers! Our experienced staff will prepare scrumptious local meals and venison is always on the menu. We cater for special dietary needs if you have any medical condition, just let us know ahead of time.

WEATHER/CLOTHING:

Our weather varies in the different provinces/ countries, as well as different times of the year, therefore we will advise you in detail about suitable clothing closer to a hunt. Khaki or greenish clothing is most suitable for hunting. Comfortable boots or walking shoes are a must. Remember you don’t want to break in new shoes on your trip.

There is no need to over pack, 3 sets of hunting clothes and 1-2 sets of casual clothes would be sufficient, remember we do washing daily.

HEALTH:

We operate mostly in non- malaria areas in South Africa, but for other countries malaria precaution need to be taken. We carry comprehensive medical kits, but advise visitors to bring any medication they feel they might need for their day–to–day requirements.

Please check with us before spending a fortune on unnecessary inoculations and medicines, at present no inoculations are required, but we will advise if there are any changes. Please advise us of any medical condition you might have.

RIFLES/AMMUNITION/BOWS

We recommend you bring the largest caliber rifle that you feel comfortable with. A .375 H&H is the minimum caliber for dangerous game. Also bring premium grade ammunition, no ordinary soft nose bullets. You are allowed a max of 200 rounds of ammo per rifle, but we suggest you bring 60 rounds per gun. No semi automatic rifles/shotguns are allowed into the country, as well as only one rifle per caliber.

You can bring more than one gun. Remember to have you guns registered at US customs before you leave the US (only US clients), you will need this form at arrival in JHB and when you re-enter the US. We will have your rifle import permits issued before your arrival at no-charge (South Africa).

We have a variety of rifles available for hire if you wish not to bring your own.
Bows have no problem entering the country. We recommend at least a 60-pound bow for non-dangerous game, with 3 blade broad heads.
